As a fan of good pop music, Dolby’s songs like “Europa and the Pirate Twins” really appealed to me (and still do). And while I can understand the reason that most articles today still hang their hat on one particular Dolby MTV hit from the ’80s, it...

New Whole Tone Fixed-width Keyboard from W-AUDIO... →
Synthtopia, the essential blog for synth-heads, reports today on a peculiar new keyboard from upstart W-AUDIO with a unique and somewhat innovative keyboard layout. At the very least, the back panel is going to raise some eyebrows.

Twenty-One Moogfest 2011 Awards
From the viewpoint of one attendee of Moogfest 2011 (me), here are twenty-one awards from Moogfest 2011: 1. Best Music Technology Immersion Award - The Moogaplex: Not only a synth-geek haven (not that there’s anything wrong with that), but three full afternoons of great insight into the past, progression, and future of music technology. And the workshops weren’t just a Moog commercial...

Music magazines, blogs, radio and more were well represented [at MoogFest], and as the writers, photographers and videographers make their way back to their hometowns, the Moogfest wrap ups and recaps are sure to keep popping up. Here are a handful to get started.

What synth was used for the oh-so-elusive bass... →
An intriguing and entertaining debate over on the Gearslutz forums about what synth was used for the oh-so-elusive bass line in Eurythmics’ hit song “Sweet Dreams (are Made of This)”. If you’ve ever tried to reproduce the song yourself, you’ll understand why I say it’s elusive. Apparently, the answer to this question is as elusive as the bass line itself.

Leading up to the release of his upcoming new album, The Map of the Floating City, Thomas Dolby has launched a multiplayer online game set in a dystopian future where people have been forced to abandon land and take to the sea on a variety of ships, where they form tribes, trade and happen upon wares, and through cooperation and ingenuity, earn song and album downloads.
